Operation Details
'AKD' was the designation of Allied convoys (together with a numerical suffix) plying the route from Aden via Kilindini, Kenya, to Durban, South Africa, and as such reciprocals of the 'DKA' series (September 1943/April 1944).
,These convoys were instituted in September 1943 and replaced all earlier southbound East African coastal convoys, and as such were the successors to the 'AK' and other series. There were at least 27 such convoys, several with the same numerical designator to which a letter was appended, and the last was AKD.21 of 19/30 April 1944 with the 22,242-ton British Monarch of Bermuda.
