Operation Details
'Antidote' was a British naval undertaking by the 13th Minesweeping Flotilla, based at Bizerte, to clear mines off Galita and Sousse in the Tunisian coastal waters of North Africa following the surrender of the German and Italian forces in North Africa as the culmination of the 'Vulcan' Allied final seizure of Tunisia (May/June 1943).
,The operation was designed to facilitate the safe arrival in Tunisian ports of of Allied warships and the convoys bringing in men, equipment and supplies which would soon be needed for the 'Husky' (i) invasion of Sicily and subsequent operations against the Italian mainland and, in the longer term, the Allied landings in the south of France.
