BC (iv)

'BC' (iv) was the designation of Allied convoys (together with a numerical suffix) plying the route from Beira, Portuguese East Africa, to Durban, South Africa, and as such reciprocals of the 'CB' series (July 1943/August 1944).

The first of these was BC.1 of 17/20 July 1943 with the 5,151-ton British Birchbank, 6,635-ton British City of Rangoon, 5,469-ton British City of Worcester, 10,926-ton British Eastern Prince, 6,533-ton US Exanthia, 6,597-ton US Exceller, 6,533-ton US Exiria, 5,222-ton British Hoperidge, 7,180-ton US Lot Whitcomb, 8,151-ton Dutch Tabian, and 5,996-ton British Tactician, with escort provided by five British warships in the form of the sloop Falmouth and the corvettes Aster, Freesia, Nigella and Rockrose.
