Operation Details
'Burnous' was a British unrealised plan by the Special Operations Executive for an attack on the Orkla pyrites mine at Løkken near Trondheim (June/August 1941).
,This was the first of several plans to attack this important source of a raw material needed by Germany. Stores and personnel were already available in the area, and intelligence was collected, but at the end of August 1941 the Ministry of Economic Warfare informed the SOE that the mine needed to be put out of action for several months if any attack was to be worthwhile. This led SOE to switch the focus of its thinking to the disruption of the transportation of pyrites from the mine to Germany.
