'Canwell' was a British radio deception operation, in tandem with 'Bertram', to help conceal the movement of Lieutenant General H. Lumsden’s X Corps into its staging area before the 'Lightfoot' first stage of the 2^nd Battle of El Alamein to be fought by Lieutenant General B. L. Montgomery’s 8^th Army (October 1942).

Lasting four weeks, 'Canwell' simulated the radio net of Major General A. H. Gatehouse’s 10^th Armoured Division to suggest that this formation, a major element of the X Corps, had not moved.
