Operation Details
'Fishnet' was the Allied overall designation of operations by General Douglas MacArthur’s South-West Pacific Area command in the area bounded by northern New Guinea, the Bismarck islands archipelago and the Admiralty islands group (February/March 1944).
,Preceded by 'Backhander', 'Dexterity' and 'Director' (i), the main amphibious operations involved were 'Appease', 'Beefsteak', 'Brewer' and 'Squarepeg', together with associated air and naval elements designed to complete the isolation of General Hitoshi Imamura’s 8th Area Army on the north-eastern end of New Britain island and on New Ireland island.
