Operation Details
'Gobbo' was a British special forces operation, originally known as 'Portia', by the Belgian Independent Parachute Company (5th Special Air Service) to discover German dispositions and strength in the Drenthe area of the German-occupied northern Netherlands (27 September 1944/17 March 1945).
,Seven men under the command of Lieutenant E. Debefve were parachuted into the area and, after discovering that the region lacked the cover required for the creation of an offensive base that was the other objective of the operation, successfully operated in civilian clothes for nearly six months for the collection of information that was radioed base to base.
