'Greenback' was an Allied unrequired contingency plan for a last-resort attack against the German forces on the French mainland, in the event of a Soviet collapse on the Eastern Front, in an effort to draw German forces away from the USSR and thereby provide the Soviet forces with a breathing space in which to recover (summer/autumn 1942).
