HN

'HN' was the designation of Allied convoys (together with a numerical and sometimes a literal suffix) plying between Bergen in Norway and Methil on the Firth of Forth, and as such reciprocals of the 'ON' series (November 1939/April 1940).

The first of the 28 such 'Homeward from Norway' convoys was HN.0 of 14/16 October 1939 with the 845-ton Polish Chorzow, 1,864-ton Polish Kroman, 7,619-ton French Limousin, 1,966-ton Greek Manoula, 1,795-ton Polish Narocz, 1,971-ton Polish Robur IV and 2,018-ton Polish Wilno escorted by the light cruiser Southampton and destroyers Jackal, Janus, Jersey, Jervis and Mohawk. The last was HN.25 of 9/12 April 1940 with 42 merchant vessels and four escorts in the form of the British destroyer Zulu and Free Polish destroyers Błyskawica, Burza and Grom.
