'Mädchen' was the German programme of rearguard actions by General Joachim Lemelsen’s 14^th Army of Generalfeldmarschall Albert Kesselring’s Heeresgruppe 'C' along the Arno river in the northern part of central Italy as Lieutenant General Mark W. Clark’s US 5^th Army advanced to the north in the direction of Florence (August 1944).
