Marienburg-Stellung

The 'Marienburg-Stellung' was a German defence line in occupied Latvia (summer/autumn 1944).

,

Extending from the western shore of Lake Pskov along a generally south-westerly line toward Madona, the 'Marienburg-Stellung' defences were designed to cover the approaches to northern Latvia and Estonia from the south-east by General Ivan I. Maslennikov’s 3rd Baltic Front, which was faced by General Herbert Loch’s 18th Army of Generaloberst Johannes Friessner’s Heeresgruppe 'Nord'.

,

The Soviet 'Siauliai Offensive Operation' to clear the Baltic states began on 5 July 1944, and swiftly drove through the strictly limited defensive positions of the 'Marienburg-Stellung'.
