Operation Details
'Michael' (ii) was a German unrealised plan for the evacuation of all Axis forces from Crimea (28 October 1943).
,The implementation of the plan was specifically refused by Adolf Hitler, who demanded that Generaloberst Erwin Jaenecke’s 17th Army hold the peninsula or at the very minimum Sevastopol at its western end, where its 235,000 men were trapped on 11 November 1943 in the aftermath of the Soviet forces' successful 'Kerch-Eltigen Operation' but then largely evacuated in April and May 1944 before the last pockets were overrun and destroyed on 12 May.
