Operation Details
'Nordsturm' was a U-boat wolfpack operation in the Atlantic to the south of Greenland (2/9 February 1943).
,The wolfpack comprised U-186, U-223, U-268, U-358 and U-707, and for the loss of none of its own number sank one 5,649-ton ship of the SG.19 convoy.
,On 2 February the most northerly boat of the 'Haudegen' wolfpack sighted and reported the Greenland-bound SG.19 supply convoy, which comprised three ships escorted by the US Coast Guard cutters Tampa, Escabana and Comanche. U-186, U-223, U-268, U-358 and U-707 were ordered to intercept and attack as the 'Nordsturm' wolfpack, and Oberleutnant Karl-Jürg Wächter’s U-223 sank the 5,649-ton US Army transport Dorchester.
