SJ (ii)

'SJ' (ii) was the designation of Allied convoys (together with a numerical suffix) plying the route from Batavia, Dutch East Indies, and Singapore to Colombo, Ceylon, and as such reciprocals of the 'JS' series (February 1942).

There were eight such convoys starting with SJ.1 of 12/21 February from Batavia to Colombo with 13 merchant vessels (5,609-ton British Anglo Indian, 1,279-ton Dutch Banjoewangi, 1,279-ton Batavia, 8,331-ton British City of Canterbury, 8,049-ton British City of Pretoria towing the British submarine Rover, 5,442-ton British Clan Alpine, 3,298-ton British Halizones, 9,032-ton British Madura, 8,124-ton British Malancha towing the British destroyer Isis, Dutch Rijn, 7,037-ton Van der Capelle, 2,147-ton Dutch Van Swoll and 3,229-ton British Yuen Sang. The last of the convoys was SJ.8 of 26 February with the 2,884-ton British Ashridge.
