'Sportverein Wiking' was a German operation by elements of Hauptmann Dr Theodor von Hippel’s Lehr-Regiment 'Brandenburg' zbV 800 to ensure the security of the railway route through Romania along which oil was transported from the oilfields at Ploieşti to Germany (1940).
