Operation Details
'Timberwolf' was the Allied movement of Lieutenant General E. L. M. Burns’s Canadian I Corps, at the urging of the Canadian government, from the UK to Italy (winter 1943/44).
,The corps' formations had to be sent to Italy without equipment, and this fact then kept it inactive for months. The corps finally took over a sector of the Allied line at the end of January 1944 as a time when the line was static, and it was therefore not until 23 May 1944 that the formation undertook its first major task as an attack in the Allied offensive against the 'Führer-Linie' defences.
