'Turnpike' was a British unrealised operation to block the Corinth Canal through the isthmus connecting the Peloponnese with the rest of mainland Greece, thus forcing Axis shipping between the Ionian and Aegean Seas to round the Peloponnese, where it would be more vulnerable to British naval and air attack (1941/44).
