Operation Details
'Wolsey' was a British special forces operation by five men of the Special Air Service and 'Phantom' (F Squadron of the GHQ Liaison Regiment) under the command of Lieutenant McDevitt to gather intelligence on German strengths and dispositions near Francières in the north-eastern part of German-occupied France between Soissons and Compiègne (26 August/3 September 1944).
,The party was parachuted into its area and the operation was very successful in yielding important intelligence information, including the location of a German convoy that was then attacked and destroyed by the attack of 44 de Havilland Mosquito warplanes of the RAF.
